How to Enable Redo Coverage Validation in Shopify Checkout
Credit-card fraud is an unfortunate reality for many merchants—especially when bad actors use low-priced digital products (often Redo Coverage) to test stolen cards. To help protect your store, Redo provides built-in checkout validation that significantly reduces this behavior.
This guide walks you through how to turn on Redo Coverage Validation in Shopify Checkout, plus one additional best practice to further safeguard your store.
Why Redo Coverage Validation Matters
Fraudsters often add only Redo Coverage—or multiple instances of it—to test card numbers because it’s inexpensive and fast. When Checkout Validation is enabled:
Shoppers cannot check out with only Redo Coverage.
Bad actors are blocked from adding multiple Redo products.
Your checkout flow becomes much more resistant to bot-based card testing.
This simple toggle dramatically decreases fraudulent attempts and the headaches they create for your team.
How to Turn On Redo Coverage Validation
Follow the steps below from your Shopify Admin:
1. Open Shopify Settings
From your Shopify dashboard, click Settings in the lower-left corner.
2. Navigate to Checkout
In the settings menu, select Checkout.
3. Scroll to the Checkout Rules Section
At the very bottom of the page, you’ll find Checkout Rules.
4. Add the Redo Coverage Validation Rule
Click Add Rule
Choose Redo Coverage Validation
Ensure the Checkout Validation toggle is turned ON
That’s it—your store now actively prevents fraudulent Redo-only transactions.
Additional Best Practice: Set the Redo Product to “Unlisted”
To further reduce exposure to bots, we recommend making your Redo product unlisted so it doesn’t appear in recommendations or search results.
How to Update Product Visibility
Go to Products in Shopify
Select your Redo product
Set its visibility to Unlisted
This prevents automated scripts from easily finding and adding the product to the cart.
